Creativity And Science

"The greatest scientists are artists as well," as Albert Einstein said. We do not realize that the scientists are individuals with ‘Creative Minds’ creating newer and newer inventions for human comfort and improving standard of living.

If we look through the creative scientists through the past almost 700 years we will actually find many great inventions which made history  and these inventions were made by scientists with creative minds.

Scientists ‘discover’ scientific facts and then use these facts to create new inventions. From earliest tools of the cavemen to the modern digital advances, human inventions and technologies have fashioned civilizations and transformed life on the Earth.
Using the prime criteria 'improving the standard of living', the following inventions can be considered as top 10 inventions:

Creativity and intelligence are closely linked concepts, so much so that the existence of one is the measure of the other. Through intelligent creativity our scientists of the past and present have made breakthrough inventions which has transformed the lives of the ‘Homo Sapiens’.

"Over the course of the last decade, however, we seem to have reached a general agreement that creativity involves the production of novel, useful products" (Mumford, 2003, p. 110). In Robert Sternberg's words, creativity is the production of "something original and worthwhile".

Our society needs more and more creative scientists for continued innovation. We rely heavily on scientific creativity, whether we realize it or not and take that for granted. Hence, the need of the hour is to induct our next generation to a ‘cult of creative thinking’ and pave the path for the same.
