NIFT 2021-2022 exam syllabus for GAT is described below:

Quantitative Ability

The major areas of testing in this section are Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Ratio and Proportion and Distance.

Communicative Ability

The candidates are tested on their language skills and its use in day-to-day communication in English. This sub-section includes questions from Synonyms, Antonyms, Words with corresponding meanings, Singular, Plural, One-word Substitutes, Idioms and Phrases, Spelling correction etc

English Comprehension

The examinees are tested on their reading abilities and comprehending abilities of a given situation in the given unseen passage. This section tests the basic English language skills through the questions based on the given passage.

Analytical Ability

This sub-section is designed to test the candidate’s capacity for the ability of inference and logic from the given information. This section picks up questions from the areas of logical reasoning where candidates are supposed to draw logical conclusions from the analytical reasoning questions.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

This sub-section, as per the NIFT 2021-2022 syllabus is designed to test the candidate’s general awareness and current affairs. The questions in this section are taken up from the current affairs sections and general knowledge.


B.FTech & M.FTech Syllabus

NIFT Syllabus 2021-2022: GAT for MFM, B.FTech and M.FTech


The GAT for B. F. Tech. MFM, and M. F. Tech. has majorly the same sub-sections like the GAT for B. Des. and M. Des., however, there is a slight change. The various sections of this GAT are:

  1. Quantitative Ability
  2. Communication Ability and English Comprehension
  3. Analytical and Logical Ability
  4. General Knowledge and Current Affairs
  5. Case Study

The common sub-sections have a similar syllabus as per the NIFT Syllabus 2021 discussed above, while the Case Study sub-section is a new addition to this GAT. The Case Study is a test which is based on a situation of an industry environment which the candidate has to analyze and provide solutions to the questions. This test is designed especially to test the managerial skills of the candidate.

NIFT Syllabus 2021-2022: CAT for B.Des and M.Des

The Creative Ability Test or CAT is a test which is specially designed to judge and assess the intuitive ability, the observation power of the candidate in terms of concept development and design ability.

The major motive of this test is to assess the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills of the candidates. The candidates are required to work on their drawing skills and use their imagination to create new ideas by using colours. This exam is conducted for the candidates appearing for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) or Master of Design (M.Des.) exam.

NIFT Syllabus 2021-2022 for Situation Test

The situation test is conducted for post announcement of written test for shortlisted candidates appearing for B. Des. This test is a ‘hands-on’ test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and the innovative ability on a given set of material. This test is helpful for the assessment of the creative aspect of the candidate’s minds and they shall be asked to prepare a model out of the given materials.

  • The model thus produced by the candidate would be evaluated on the basis of space visualization, innovative and creative use of the given materials,
  • The composition of elements, colour use, the skills added by the candidate in constructing the model, the finesse of the model and the overall presentation and neatness of work.
  • Along with the construction of the model, the candidate has to explain the idea and concept of the model in a write-up which would be the guide to the model. The write-up would be checked on the given parameters.

According to the NIFT syllabus 2021-2022, the candidates are required to be as creative as they can be. As this is a situation test, the candidates are not allowed to take help from any other source. The evaluation depends on the construction and the overall presentation of the model made.

If you put your mind to it, you can come up with plenty of creative ideas for using everyday things and items in new and interesting ways.

For example, did you know you can use the humble pack of Popsicle sticks to generate design ideas through prototyping and model creation?  And not just that…There are lots of interesting and innovative things you can make with these simple items if you really start thinking creatively.

The various permutations and combinations that can be used to create 2D and 3D designs using ice-cream sticks are innumerable. You can create design prototypes, working science models, art and craft models and much more using various sets of permutations and combinations by grouping the ice-cream sticks in an interesting manner. With creative designs from your imagination, you can make as many projects with these as you can think of.

Sometimes students/designers get so caught up in the physical prototyping that they forget about the thought process that goes into fashioning the idea and then creating it. To allow the design students to sit down and think about the process and to encourage them to come up with innovative ideas, ice-cream sticks are a good way to enable ‘Low Tech Prototyping.

Spreading hope through the arts


Serendipity Arts Festival launches a new digital experience: 
SAF 2020 x You

April 24, New Delhi:  Serendipity Arts Festival is launching a new digital experience for all those who are braving the pandemic in quarantine and living in lockdown. SAF 2020 x You, a digital initiative, starting from the 25th of April, will be evenly spread across 5 - 6 days and will be hosted on the different social media platforms of the Festival, supported by a new, specially designed webpage.

The new webpage will carry the essential details about the daily offerings of this digital collaborative festival. The virtual festival will be bringing a range of multi-disciplinary experiences, from a cross section of the arts in the form of archived and aggregated content from the past and present. The offerings will see a diverse mix of content presented through webinars, performances, readings and workshops. People can expect to be a part of special sessions by the likes of Bickram Ghosh, tabla virtuoso and percussionist, Ranjit Barot, Drummer & Percussionist and curator of the music discipline from the Serendipity Arts Festival 2016, Sneha Khanwalkar, music director and curator to the Serendipity Arts Festival. Along with messages and special presentations by notable artists and curators who have been associated with the Serendipity Arts Foundation & Festival like Vidya Shivadas, Rahaab Allana, Ravi Agarwal, Veeranganakumari Solanki, Anuja Ghosalkar, Niketan Sharma, Astad Deboo and many more. Much like the annual festival the digital experience will also package elements for people of all ages. Ranga Shankara Theater, envisioned by Arundhati Nag, actress, theater personality and curator, will do special readings and storytelling sessions for children from fables and children’s literature. The programming will also include several workshops on theater, music and culinary arts for everyone to participate in and rejoice from the comfort of their homes.

The content put up in these brackets would be shared by the partners and affiliates, past and present curators and artists from previous editions, along with a combination of popular content available from public sources, with due credit to the publisher.
